Acceptable Use Policy

Face swapping is a creative tool, and it is also technology that can be used to harm people. This page sets out where the line is, what we do about it, and how to reach us if something crosses it.

The rule in one sentence

Use your own face, or a face you have explicit permission to use — and never to create sexual, defamatory, or deceptive content about a real person.

Consent

Before you swap someone's face, you must have their explicit permission. Not implied permission because they are your friend, and not assumed permission because the photo is public.

Three cases are always acceptable: your own face; a person who has agreed to it; and licensed template content supplied inside the app, where the rights have already been cleared.

One case is never acceptable regardless of permission: content involving anyone under 18.

Prohibited uses

You may not use SwapX to create, or attempt to create:

  • Sexual or intimate imagery of a real person without their consent. This is a criminal offence in the United States under the TAKE IT DOWN Act (2025), and under comparable law in the United Kingdom, European Union, and Australia. It is prohibited here without exception.
  • Any sexual content involving a minor, or any content that sexualises a person who appears to be a minor. We report this to the relevant authorities.
  • Content designed to deceive — fake evidence, fabricated news footage, impersonation of a real person making statements they did not make, or material intended to influence an election.
  • Identity fraud, including attempts to defeat facial verification, KYC checks, or biometric authentication.
  • Harassment, bullying, defamation, or intimidation of any individual.
  • Content that violates someone's publicity, likeness, or copyright, including commercial use of a public figure's face without a licence.

What we do about it

Consent confirmation

Before a swap runs, you confirm that the face you are using is your own or that you have permission. That confirmation is part of the flow, not buried in the terms.

Content filtering

Automated screening blocks sexual and nudity-related content from being generated, and blocks the categories listed above.

Minimal retention

Uploaded images exist only long enough to render your result, then are removed from processing storage. They are not used to train models.

Enforcement

Accounts and devices used to attempt prohibited content lose access. Serious cases are referred to the appropriate authorities.

Reporting misuse

If you believe an image of you has been created or shared using SwapX without your consent, email contact@swapxapp.com with the subject line Removal request. Include whatever you have — the image, where you found it, and any identifying detail. You do not need to be a SwapX user to make a report, and you do not need to prove anything before we look into it.

We aim to respond to removal requests within 24 hours.

If you are the subject of a deepfake

Regardless of which tool was used, there are steps that help:

  1. Preserve evidence — screenshots, URLs, timestamps — before requesting removal anywhere.
  2. Report to the platform hosting it. Major platforms have dedicated non-consensual imagery reporting flows that move faster than general abuse reports.
  3. In the US, the Take It Down service, operated by NCMEC, helps remove intimate images of minors across participating platforms. StopNCII.org provides the equivalent service for adults.
  4. Report it to law enforcement. Non-consensual intimate imagery is a criminal matter in a growing number of jurisdictions, not merely a platform policy violation.

Changes to this policy

The law in this area is moving quickly. We update this page as obligations change, and material changes are reflected in the app. This policy sits alongside our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
