Why templates produce better results
A face swap is only as good as the target it goes into. Templates are chosen and prepared with that in mind: the subject faces the camera at a workable angle, the lighting is even and unambiguous in direction, and the face occupies enough of the frame to give the model detail to work with.
Compare that to a random photo pulled from a camera roll, where the subject might be half-turned, backlit, or small in frame. The swap technology is identical — the input is not.
If you are new to face swapping, starting with a template is the fastest way to see what good output looks like, before moving on to your own footage.
Getting the best out of a template
- Match your source photo's lighting to the template. A bright flash selfie into a moody cinematic scene gives the compositor more work to do than it needs.
- Use a front-facing source. Templates already handle the pose; your job is to supply a clean face to map from.
- Try two or three source photos. The difference between an acceptable result and a very good one is usually the source, not the template.
Licensing and consent
Template scenes are licensed for use in the app, so you are not lifting someone else's footage when you use one. The face you bring is your responsibility: it must be your own or one you have explicit permission to use. Templates do not change that, and they are not a route around it. Template output is licensed for personal use and social sharing. If you want to use a result commercially, email us first and we will confirm the licensing on that specific template.
